Lemon as a publication and a student organization is inclusive, sophisticated, artistic and thoughtful.

Our goal is to represent the students and work we showcase in a considered and structured way, aiming to be a springboard for students in any creative discipline to get their work noticed.

The team working on Lemon is full of creatives, and the voice of our brand reflects the playful experimentation that all creative work requires.

The magazine is divided into Theme, where a body of work is curated related to a chosen concept, and Gallery, which is open to non-theme specific work.

Lemon is an annually published arts magazine at Carnegie Mellon University. Founded in 2021 by a group of 5 students in the School of Design, Lemon aims to publish a selection of the creative work generated each year across a diverse range of mediums and majors on campus.

Joining as a sophomore in the School of Art to be a layout designer, Vella worked with the founders of the organization to develop Lemon’s presence across the College of Fine Arts. Through interviews with The Frame Gallery, deep-dives into one students expert mending practice, and written portraits of the members of our on campus radio (WRCT), Lemon has worked to bridge a much-needed connection between creatives inside and outside of the College of Fine Arts.

In the spring of 2024, the 4 founders of Lemon graduated, passing the organization onto an entirely new board of editors. Since then, we have worked to expand our internal teams and uphold a healthy working culture, broaden our outreach and advertising for submissions, and build on the base that was left for us so that Lemon can continue to grow as we pass it on.

Lemon would not be possible without support from out advisors Brett Yasko and Dylan Vitone, and funding from The Carnegie Mellon College of Fine Arts Dean's Office, Carnegie Mellon School of Design, and Carnegie Mellon's Joint Funding Committee.
