Lunar Gala 2023          “Atrophy”

Defined as the process of wasting away, degenerating, and becoming vestigial, atrophy describes a cellular decomposition that our line captures in six still-frames.

The development of this cycle is displayed as our line progresses. From the first piece to the last, each piece begins to lose its formal rigidity, parallel to cellular contraction. Ultimately, the final piece demonstrates the terminal stages of a loss of composition in materiality, form, and movement.

The static wire and stable soft sculptures contradict the loose red thread and translucent mesh in the gradually diminishing form and opacity of the designs. Red accents reflect biomimetic influences of muscle tissue, and create a strong contrast against the neutral and natural colors, abstracting the skeletal and nervous systems of the body.
